College Relations

As a core leadership area of the chapter, Southwest Washington SHRM is devoted to partnering with local colleges and students as part of the mission to further professional development. Southwest Washington SHRM has partnered with Clark College and Washington State University Vancouver (WSUV) and several students over the years.  We are always looking to develop new partnerships with schools and with students.

Are you a college student who is interested in a career in Human Resources? Here's what you can do to learn more about the profession and prepare yourself for a career in HR:

    • Attend a Southwest Washington SHRM event.  Events are a great way to network with HR professionals and to learn more about relevant HR topics.
    • Complete an internship in the field of HR.  Network with Southwest Washington SHRM members to identify internship opportunities or to find a mentor in the HR field.
    • Join SHRM as a student.  SHRM membership will provide you with access to a wealth of HR resources.
    • Once a SHRM member apply for a SHRM Foundation scholarship to help supplement the cost of your education.
    • Once you have gained experience in the field, get certified as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR). Many employers desire PHR certification when hiring.
